The Two Brothers Cliff Municipal Natural Park in Leblon is well known and has several viewpoints, gardens and other beautiful spaces. In May 2021 it was renamed Two Brothers — Two Cariocas — Sérgio Bernardes and Alfredo Sirkis Municipal Natural Park.

It can be accessed quite easily from Alto Leblon, via R. Gabriel Mufarrej (corner of Av. Visconde de Albuquerque) and then via R. Aperana. It was created in 1992 to respond to residents’ requests to protect the site, with its varied ecosystem and rare species.

The park has a fantastic structure spread over 39 hectares. Its implementation further reinforced the safety of the neighborhood, providing a complete option for leisure and contemplation of nature, ideal for bringing the family.

Designed by landscaper Fernando Chacel, the park in Leblon has a total of 4 viewpoints, gardens, an amphitheater and a lagoon, housing several animal and plant species such as:

  • Monkeys;
  • Squirrels;
  • Various birds;
  • Morpho Peleides Butterflies;
  • Various types of bromeliads, orchids, water lilies and other flowers;
  • Endangered botanical species.

Just up the road leading to the park is the first viewpoint, known as Mirante do Penhasco, Mirante Orla or Mirante do Sétimo Céu. It provides an incredible view of the neighborhood, Ipanema beach, Mirante do Leblon and Corcovado.

At this first point in the park there is a tribute to the victims of the Air France Flight 447 accident; a monument created by architect Ricardo Villar with 228 swallows engraved in transparent acrylic, with the phrase “In memory” written in 21 languages.

The second viewpoint is where the Arena is located, which presents theatrical plays by street artistic groups, acoustic shows and other interventions. It is one of the viewpoints that has the most vegetation and is most hidden, but it is an area suitable for picnics, as well as relaxation and meditation practices.

It is a tour with a mild degree of difficulty, which can be accessed entirely by car, bicycle or on foot. The site has parking and bicycle storage, as well as full security during official opening hours. It’s a great trip for both families and those looking for a place to practice more intense sports, such as steep runs, trail runs and stairs.

After the last viewpoint, it is possible to access another location: the foot of Morro Irmão Menor, which also has an incredible view. This small trail is known as Trilha Janela do Céu and is 1.5 km long, but it is best suited for those who have experience hiking trails and are in good physical shape.

Two Brothers Cliff Trail

As part of our article about the park in Leblon, a more suitable alternative for those who enjoy trails and very steep climbs is the Two Brothers Cliff Trail. It can be accessed via Av. Niemeyer, at the point that divides Leblon from the São Conrado neighborhood.

It takes approximately 40 minutes to walk over a length of 1.5km, alternating steep sections and gentler ones. Its level of difficulty is considered mild, however, it is still recommended for those who already have a certain amount of practice and physical conditioning.

Upon reaching the summit, the spectacular view allows you to see practically the entire South Zone of Rio, including Pedra da Gávea, São Conrado beach, Jockey Club, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Corcovado, Christ the Redeemer, among others. On the way there is a point selling mineral water and coconut water, perfect for resting and reinvigorating your strength.

Leblon Viewpoint

Two kiosks serve the site, Oka Vista and Mirante Sonhador. Their menus feature various types of drinks, beverages, beers, coconut water, meat dishes, seafood, snacks, portions and other options. They have been revitalized and have been under new management since the second half of 2019, providing a very positive experience for those who want to spend the day relaxing at the viewpoint.
